President Trump has formally nominated Todd Blanche to serve as the next attorney general. The White House submitted the nomination to the Senate this week, setting up a potential confirmation process.
Todd Blanche had served as acting attorney general for two months after Pam Bondi left the position in April. Trump announced at a private dinner last Wednesday that Blanche would take the role on a permanent basis. Blanche previously worked as Trump's personal attorney in several criminal cases. Since becoming acting attorney general, he has pursued administration priorities and defended a proposed $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund. Blanche signed papers shielding Trump, his family and businesses from certain IRS audits. Some Republican senators have raised concerns about his record during his time at the Department of Justice. Blanche told Fox News he would focus on executing the president's priorities, including making the country safe again. The Senate confirmation battle is expected to examine his actions in the acting role.
