Obsidian Entertainment has launched Avowed on PlayStation 5, one year after its initial release on Xbox and PC. The anniversary update, Patch 2.0, introduces New Game Plus mode, three new playable races, a photo mode, and a new weapon type. These additions aim to enhance replayability and accessibility for both new and returning players.
Avowed, a first-person fantasy RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, originally launched on February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Series S, and PC. The game received a Metacritic score of 80 and earned a nomination for Best RPG at The Game Awards, though it underperformed against Xbox Game Studios' sales expectations and was overshadowed by titles such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and others in the RPG genre.
On February 18, 2026, marking the game's first anniversary, Obsidian released Patch 2.0, described as the largest update to date. This free update coincides with the PS5 port, which includes all prior patches and runs at 30fps on the console. Key features include New Game Plus mode, where players can replay the campaign while retaining unlocked abilities (except godlike ones), unique weapons, armor, and enchantments. Resources reset, enemy stats increase, and the attribute maximum doubles—sources vary between from 15 to 30 or 30 to 60 points.
Three new playable races join the existing Human and Elf options in character creation: Dwarves, known for strength and tenacity; Orlans, with distinctive two-toned skin and hirsute bodies; and Aumaua, towering and physically imposing. A Magic Mirror at the Party Camp allows mid-playthrough character changes, including race swaps and new godlike feature variants. Additional content comprises a Photo Mode for capturing moments, a new Quarterstaff weapon for fast melee combos, new abilities, and quality-of-life improvements like bug fixes, UI tweaks, and performance optimizations.
The update expands Godlike customization with more facial features and hairstyles. Combat sees adjustments for better responsiveness, ability scaling, and build viability, addressing early feedback on difficulty. No new story content is added, focusing instead on gameplay enhancements. The PS5 release aligns with Microsoft's multiplatform strategy, following titles like Forza Horizon 5 and The Outer Worlds 2.
Obsidian states the update provides 'tangible reasons to revisit' the game, potentially boosting its player base amid positive online reactions.
