Egypt signs protocol to enhance textile export quality

The General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) has signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Chamber of Apparel and Home Textile Industries (ECAHT) to improve testing and inspection services for textiles, ready-made garments, and technical apparel. The agreement aims to enhance product quality and boost the global competitiveness of Egyptian exports. It aligns with directives from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to support export-oriented industries.

In a move to bolster the national industry, the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Chamber of Apparel and Home Textile Industries (ECAHT) on March 10, 2026, at the headquarters of the Federation of Egyptian Industries. The agreement was signed by Essam El-Naggar, Chairperson of GOEIC, and Mohamed Mohamed Abdel Salam, representing the chamber.

The protocol seeks to expand collaboration on inspection and laboratory analysis of textile, ready-made garment, and technical apparel samples in line with approved Egyptian and international standards. It also aims to strengthen coordination between regulatory bodies and the industrial sector to improve national product quality and ease access to export markets.

GOEIC will offer testing and analysis services for samples from chamber-affiliated companies and factories, issuing technical reports within set timeframes to speed up procedures and enhance quality assurance efficiency for local and export products. The deal includes creating an electronic data-exchange mechanism via a dedicated digital platform to ensure accuracy and security in handling lab data.

Essam El-Naggar stated that the protocol aligns with the ministry's strategy to support the national industry and reinforce the quality framework for Egyptian exports, especially in high value-added sectors like ready-made garments and home textiles. He noted that GOEIC has advanced laboratory and digital infrastructure, along with extensive technical expertise, allowing it to perform a broad range of tests per the latest standards.

Mohamed Mohamed Abdel Salam described the cooperation as a key step in aiding sector companies and factories through advanced inspection and testing services that improve quality and ensure international standard compliance. He affirmed the chamber's commitment to helping members expand into global markets, adding that the partnership will build international confidence in Egyptian products and drive export growth in ready-made garments.

The protocol lasts five years, renewable by mutual agreement, with a joint committee overseeing implementation to maximize benefits for Egypt's garments and home textiles industry.
