The Electoral Court of Pará ruled on Friday (13) to prohibit Vice-Governor Hana Ghassan (MDB) from using hats bearing her name in social media posts and at official events. Hana Ghassan, a pre-candidate for state governor backed by Governor Helder Barbalho (MDB) for his succession, frequently appears wearing these hats during public agendas as vice-governor and in content on her digital channels.
The judicial decision requires the removal of existing posts within 48 hours and bans new publications featuring the hats, with a fine of R$ 5,000 for each violation. It also prohibits the use of a jingle containing her name and any form of personal propaganda at government events.
The request for the measure was submitted by the PSB, the party of Ananindeua Mayor Daniel Santos, who is regarded as the main political rival to Helder Barbalho's group in the state race for the 2026 Elections. The action aims to curb what the party claims is premature electoral propaganda during the pre-election period in Pará, a state in Brazil's North region.
This restriction comes amid increasing scrutiny of public officials' conduct that may overlap with partisan activities, particularly with the approaching 2026 elections. The vice-governor has not issued immediate comments on the decision.
