Apple's iOS 26 update builds on previous versions by offering more visual control over iPhone home screens, including icon resizing and color tints. Users can access these features through a new Customize menu in edit mode. The changes apply across all home screen pages for a consistent look.
Apple has continued to enhance home screen personalization in iOS 26, following developments from iOS 18. The update introduces options to resize app icons, remove labels, apply system-wide color tints, and create translucent effects using the Liquid Glass design language.
To begin customization, users touch and hold an empty area on the Home Screen until apps jiggle, then tap Edit and select Customize. This opens a panel at the bottom of the screen, where adjustments affect all pages uniformly.
Icon size can be switched to Large App Icons mode, which eliminates labels and enlarges icons for a cleaner appearance, though it reduces the number of icons per screen. Appearance styles include Default, which preserves original designs; Dark, which applies a darker background to supported apps and dims the wallpaper; Clear, enabling translucency with a frosted-glass effect that varies by background; and Tinted, allowing a uniform color scheme adjustable via sliders for hue and saturation. An eyedropper tool lets users sample colors from the wallpaper. The Auto option toggles between light and dark based on system settings.
App arrangement remains grid-based, with users dragging icons after entering jiggle mode. Empty spaces can be used more flexibly, such as clustering icons or aligning them to frame the wallpaper, but the grid prevents freeform placement.
iOS 26 maintains some restrictions, such as global settings without per-app or per-page variations, and no support for third-party icon packs without shortcuts. These tools, combined with widgets and other features, provide structured yet flexible personalization for iPhone users.
