Low physical PlayStation sales reported amid disc plans

New data indicates just seven PlayStation games have sold more than 100,000 physical copies in the US this year. The figures reflect trends in one of the industry's largest markets.

Analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana shared details from the company's Retail Tracking Service. Only two PlayStation games exceeded 10,000 physical sales in the US for the week ending July 11. Year to date, the total stands at seven titles above 100,000 units.

The data follows Sony's announcement to cease physical disc production in January 2028. Online criticism has targeted the company and developers, including comments on Insomniac's Wolverine trailer.

Sony has shown no sign of changing its approach. The European Union and other entities have no authority to intervene in the company's format decisions.
