Victoria Mboko saved a match point to defeat Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5) in the third round of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open. The 19-year-old Canadian reversed her loss to the Russian teenager in January's Adelaide final, advancing to her second WTA 1000 quarterfinal. Mboko will next face Elena Rybakina.
In a tense third-round match at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha, No. 10 seed Victoria Mboko overcame No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva on February 11, 2026. The contest lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes, with Mboko securing her first victory over Andreeva after losing to her in the Adelaide International final last month.
Mboko took the first set 6-3 through aggressive play, recording 15 winners and five aces while holding off a comeback attempt by Andreeva. The Russian responded in the second set, using slices, drop shots, and varied pace to break Mboko and level the match at one set apiece, 6-3.
The third set featured high-quality exchanges, with Andreeva breaking early for a 2-1 lead before Mboko equalized. At 5-4, Andreeva held a match point on her serve but double-faulted, allowing Mboko to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Mboko clinched a 7-5 win with a decisive backhand winner on her third match point, tallying 38 winners overall.
"I didn't really have a specific tactic against her," Mboko said afterward. "But I know she slices really well... I think for me it was just trying to find the little window to open the court."
This marks Mboko's third career top-10 win and her second WTA 1000 quarterfinal, following her Montreal title run last year. She has now won 13 of her last 14 three-set matches. Earlier in the tournament, Mboko defeated Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 6-4 and Marie Bouzkova 7-5, 6-2. Andreeva had beaten Magda Linette in the second round.
Mboko, currently ranked No. 13, faces No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals after Rybakina's three-set win over Zheng Qinwen. Rybakina leads their head-to-head 2-1.
