Legacy carpet maker Obeetee has expanded into furniture and home decor with the launch of Obeetee Carpets and Homes. The new line blends heritage craftsmanship with modern minimalism, using materials like Indian teak and Italian Carrara marble. The collection aims to provide a holistic home experience rooted in quality and durability.
In 1920, three Englishmen—FH Oakley, FH Bowden, and JAL Taylor—established Obeetee, which grew into one of the world's most respected handmade carpet makers. Over a century later, the brand has launched Obeetee Carpets and Homes, extending beyond rugs to include furniture, bedding, cushions, and furnishings.
Angelique Dhama, associated with the brand, described the expansion as a natural progression. “For over a century, Obeetee has shaped the foundation of interiors through carpets,” she said. “Expanding into furniture and bedding felt like a natural progression—a way to move from grounding a space to shaping it more completely.” This move responds to customers seeking a cohesive design anchored in craftsmanship and material integrity, offering what Dhama calls “a more holistic home experience while remaining true to our legacy.”
The collection emphasizes materiality, combining Indian teak, Italian Carrara marble, and brass detailing. “The material palette reflects a dialogue between heritage and global design,” Dhama explained. “We understand that the consumer of the day wants something great in quality, along with it being aesthetically appealing.” Indian teak provides warmth and structural strength from local traditions, Carrara marble adds sculptural elegance and timelessness, and brass offers a quiet sheen. “These materials create pieces that feel durable rather than trend-driven—designed to age beautifully within a home,” she added.
Detailing draws from traditional techniques, including antique wood treatments, layered stains, hand-polishing, and subtle distressing to highlight natural character. The current range features side tables, peg tables, and coffee tables, with more variations planned.
Targeted at both modern minimalists and heritage enthusiasts, the pieces feature clean lines and storied materials for contemporary homes with lasting warmth. The bedding line includes cotton percale for crispness and breathability, and linen blends for softer tactility. “To us, everyday luxury is about elevating daily rituals through thoughtful material choices and craftsmanship rather than overt ornamentation,” Dhama said. “It is luxury designed to be lived with, not reserved for special occasions.”
