Suspected Al-Shabaab militants attack two towns in Mandera

Suspected Al-Shabaab militants launched coordinated attacks on Fino and Arabia towns in Mandera County on Friday evening. Security forces responded with gunfire exchanges as residents fled for safety. An infant was injured in one of the incidents.

The first attack occurred in Fino town between 6pm and 7pm on Friday. A second assault followed about an hour later in Arabia town, both in Lafey Constituency.

Residents described heavily armed attackers and intense gunfire during the clashes. Security personnel were deployed to the area to pursue the militants.

The infant son of the headteacher at Fino Primary School was injured and taken to Mandera County Referral Hospital. The full extent of casualties and damage remained unclear at the time of reporting.

These incidents follow a security operation last week in which 11 suspected militants were killed near the Kenya-Somalia border.
