Andreas Kronthaler presented the Vivienne Westwood Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection at Paris Fashion Week, drawing inspiration from Pier Paolo Pasolini’s 1972 film adaptation of The Canterbury Tales and actress Romy Schneider. The show featured a chaotic mix of medieval and erotic elements, with models in varied outfits evoking pilgrims rummaging through a pile of clothes. Celebrities including Paris Jackson and Chappell Roan attended the front row.
The collection, shown on March 7, 2026, during Paris Fashion Week, embodied Kronthaler’s vision of a ramshackle group of pilgrims. Backstage, the designer explained, “I wanted the show to feel a bit like we’ve thrown the collection up into the sky and it landed in a big pile, a mountain. And everybody’s just grabbing something out of it and putting it on.” He cited influences from Pasolini’s film costumes and Romy Schneider, noting, “She embodied everything. And she was a bit like Vivienne, a fearless woman who always went for the artistry.”
Outfits varied widely, unified by their differences. Models wore Milanese loden coats in unlikely checks paired with smudged lipstick and stockings. A nylon cloqué wrap coat was cinched with a gold grommeted belt and matched with flat knee-high silk upper boots. A check dress with full arms and skirt gained an animal shagginess from blue threads bristling out of the fabric. Lingerie elements appeared permissively on all genders, including a net dress with embroidered orange braid, frill-edged playsuits from refashioned underwear, and a strapless bias minidress in shirting silk and cotton, offset by archaic hats inspired by Danilo Donati. The show concluded with a bride in unfinished double duchesse satin clutching a bouquet of radishes, her smudged lipstick hinting at a tumble.
Front row attendees included Paris Jackson, who wore black slouchy over-the-knee boots with a mixed-print Vivienne Westwood ensemble featuring gray-and-black marbled scrolls over a red-and-cream rocking horse pattern, cinched with a narrow belt and a studded sage green bag. Chappell Roan arrived in Look 34 from the spring 2026 collection, a rear-baring asymmetrical dress with padded shoulders, plunging ruffled V neckline edged in black beading, corset waist, and gathered skirt revealing sheer black tights from the back. She accessorized with a black ribbon choker, sheer gloves, circular black earrings, and wine-hued crushed velvet strappy sandals, complemented by a towering red updo and powder-white makeup. Other stars present were Lola Young and Ice Spice.
Kronthaler’s spring 2026 collection, referenced in Roan’s outfit, blended “boudoir” and beach moods, as he described: “It’s like a boudoir as well as the beach.”
