Bishop John Bolana to be laid to rest on Sunday

The late Bishop John Bolana, the fifth bishop of the Bantu Church of Christ, will be laid to rest on Sunday in Gqeberha. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane is set to deliver the eulogy at the funeral service. The event has been classified as a special provincial official category 2 funeral in recognition of Bolana's contributions.

Bishop John Bolana, who served as the fifth bishop of the Bantu Church of Christ, passed away on February 3. His funeral is scheduled for Sunday at the Bantu Church of Christ Cathedral in Gqeberha, where thousands of mourners are expected to attend, including business and political leaders from across South Africa.

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will deliver the eulogy during the service. The provincial government has granted Bolana a special provincial official category 2 funeral, honoring his outstanding contributions to society, spiritual leadership, and service to the people of the Eastern Cape and South Africa.

Eastern Cape provincial spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie stated: “Utata will be accorded a special provincial official funeral, category 2, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to social and spiritual leadership and his service to the people of the Eastern Cape and South Africa at large. The funeral service will be held at the Bantu Church of Christ Cathedral and is expected to be attended by thousands of mourners, including business and political leaders from across South Africa.”

This recognition underscores Bolana's role in providing spiritual guidance and community service in the region.
