Capcom confirms large-scale expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom has announced a large-scale expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, similar to previous titles' major add-ons. The expansion is in development and set for reveal later this summer. Details on the base game's final update, releasing February 18, include new high-difficulty hunts and anniversary events.

Monster Hunter Wilds developer Capcom revealed on February 10 that a “large scale” expansion is underway, drawing comparisons to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto stated, “We are currently at work on a large scale expansion similar to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak for Monster Hunter Wilds. We plan to share more information with you this summer, so please look forward to it.”

The Monster Hunter series, which began in 2004, has consistently featured expansions that add new monsters, weapons, armor, regions, and gameplay mechanics to base games. For instance, Iceborne introduced 35 large monsters, new areas like Seliana and Hoarfrost Reach, and the Clutch Claw mechanic, alongside a storyline continuing the base game's events. Monster Hunter Wilds' base game includes 33 large monsters set in a new region.

Ahead of the expansion reveal, Capcom detailed the final base game update for February 18. This patch introduces Arch-tempered Arkveld as the first 10-star difficulty quest, available via a permanent event quest on February 18 and a free challenge on March 19. Other apex predators—Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad—will receive 10-star Arch-tempered versions. Completing these and special environment quests unlocks the “Proof of a Hero” quest, pitting players against multiple Arch-tempered monsters in the Wounded Hollow. Rewards include Timeworn Charms for rare talismans and Battle-tempered Emblems for weapon reinforcement.

Additional content features the “Every Hunter's Dream” event quest, offering the contest-winning “Shatterseal” Great Sword and “Meatmergency” Pendant. New side missions include one with support hunter Nadia, enabling crafting of her armor, and a collaboration with Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, providing Palico equipment and Monstie-themed pendants. An Anniversary Event runs from February 18 to March 19, with login bonuses, rotating Festivals of Accord, and new quests.
