Egypt’s SCZONE signs $13m deals for food, fertiliser projects in Sokhna

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed two contracts worth a combined $13 million for industrial projects in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, focusing on food products and fertilisers. The projects are set to begin production in 2027, contributing to food security and job creation.

On Wednesday, Waleed Gamal El-Din, Chairperson of Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), oversaw the signing of two contracts for industrial projects in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, totaling $13 million (EGP 609 million). The first contract is with Al-Atta Group for Food and Mining Industries, involving a $11 million (EGP 515 million) investment on a 17,000-square-metre site under the Main Development Company (MDC). Production is expected to start in 2027 with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes of packaged grains, creating about 30 direct jobs, and including processing and trading of minerals and precious stones.

The second contract is with Grass Egypt for manufacturing fertilisers, soil conditioners, and agricultural pesticides, with a $2 million (EGP 94 million) investment covering 15,000 square metres. Set to begin production in early 2027, the plant will have an annual capacity of 5,000 to 7,000 tonnes and provide 70 direct jobs.

Gamal El-Din stated that the Sokhna Industrial Zone is seeing growing investor interest due to confidence in the investment environment. He noted that SCZONE supports projects meeting domestic needs and boosting exports, focusing on food security, supply chains, and mining. “The Grass Egypt project contributes directly to the substitution of imported fertilisers and pesticides,” he said, adding that the authority’s strategy aims to localise industries and enhance national competitiveness and employment.

The contracts were signed at SCZONE headquarters in the New Administrative Capital by Waleed Youssef, Managing Director of MDC, Fatma Ibrahim El-Mahdy for Al-Atta Group, and Dr Walid Abdel Rashid Basyouni for Grass Egypt. These projects reflect SCZONE’s role in supporting the national economy and improving the competitiveness of Egyptian products locally and internationally.
