A man in Umeå has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for 70 counts of aggravated rape against a girl aged between six and 11. The abuses took place between 2017 and 2022 in various locations in the city. The man admitted to about a dozen occasions during the trial, but the district court relied on the girl's testimony for the minimum number of crimes.
A man has been convicted by Umeå District Court for systematic sexual abuses against a girl over a period exceeding five years. The crimes, committed between 2017 and 2022, include 70 counts of aggravated rape against a child. The girl was between six and 11 years old at the time of the abuses, which occurred in various locations in Umeå.
A specific incident detailed in the ruling: When the girl was nine, the man took her to the toilet at Coop Tomtebo, told her to lie on the floor, and then raped her. Afterward, they entered the store where he bought her a chocolate biscuit, according to her interrogation transcript.
The court assessed the girl's account as clear, detailed, and without contradictions. The man initially denied the crimes during the preliminary investigation but admitted during the main hearing to assaulting her on 10–15 occasions. He stated he took advantage of opportunities that arose and lacked memories in several cases. The girl estimated 20–30 vaginal and 50–60 oral rapes, and the court sentenced based on the lowest number, totaling 70.
The rapes are classified as aggravated due to their systematic nature over a long period, the girl's young age, and the man's use of his body weight to overpower her, causing pain and injuries. In one instance, he forced her legs apart despite her resistance. In addition to the rapes, he was convicted of insulting photography, sexual molestation, sexual molestation of a child, and child pornography offenses.
The man had previously received forensic psychiatric care after serious crimes, but a new examination in this investigation determined he was not seriously mentally disturbed at the time of the offenses. The sentence is 11 years in prison, and he must pay 790,000 kronor in damages to the girl.
His defense attorney Thomas Nyman comments: “I have no comments at this time. I haven't spoken to my client yet.”
