Wishfully studio shares passion for Planet of Lana II ahead of March release

Swedish indie developer Wishfully has described its upcoming sequel Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf as a heartfelt tribute to Studio Ghibli films. The game, set for release on 5 March 2026, expands on the original with longer playtime and enhanced mechanics. It will launch on multiple platforms, including day one availability on Xbox Game Pass.

Wishfully, a Swedish indie studio founded in 2018 by Adam Stjärnljus and Maria Brunsson, is preparing for the launch of Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf. The sequel to the 2023 puzzle-platformer brings players back to the planet Novo for a dialogue-free adventure featuring Lana and her companion Mui.

The studio emphasized its dedication in a statement: "We poured our hearts into the hand-painted horizons of Planet of Lana II, our love letter to the sweeping scales and quiet wonder of classic Ghibli adventures." It added, "A new odyssey of friendship and mystery awaits."

This cinematic title offers a six-to-eight-hour experience, nearly double the length of the original. Game director Stjärnljus noted that the team "learnt so much from the development of the first Planet of Lana and used that to improve on every aspect of the game."

Lana appears as an older, more capable character with new movement options like wall jumps and smoother traversal. Exploration spans diverse settings, from snowy mountains to underwater depths, while physics-based puzzles highlight cooperation between Lana and Mui. The companion now transforms into different forms and can pilot machines.

Planet of Lana II will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC. A free demo is currently available on PC.
