Bijou Phillips has opened up about her dire health situation, revealing she could face a fatal complication in days while searching for a kidney match. The actress, who has battled kidney disease since birth, is determined to fight for her daughter. She shared these details in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly.
Oh, darlings, grab your tissues because Bijou Phillips is serving some seriously raw tea on her health battle 💔. The 45-year-old actress, born with underdeveloped kidneys, spent her first three months on dialysis and has been fighting kidney disease her whole life. Back in 2017, she got a transplant from a friend, but it failed due to complications like the BK virus, which her rep confirmed to TMZ triggered rejection.
Now, as she waits for a new match, Bijou isn't sugarcoating the urgency. "I could make it on dialysis for a couple years, or I could get an infection in my line tomorrow and be gone in a few days," she told Us Weekly. "I'm really hopeful, [but] it's an extremely urgent situation."
Before that first transplant, Bijou went through a "dark night of the soul" and found peace with potentially leaving this world. But everything changed after welcoming daughter Fianna Francis in 2014 with ex-husband Danny Masterson. Following Masterson's 2023 conviction on two counts of rape, Bijou filed for divorce and sought full custody, becoming a single mom.
"Now I'm a single mom and things are different," she shared. "I want to be here for her, and I have to be here for her. The fight is back. That had been gone for a long time. I'm it. I'm all she's got."
And on her wise little one? "[Fianna is] really wise, and I’m just so proud to be her mother. She takes things that are really hard in life and handles them in this really classy way. I don’t deserve such an amazing human in my life. It’s magical."
