DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho won the Ol Kalou by-election with 35,440 votes against the UDA candidate's 5,450 votes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced the results on July 17, 2026. The win followed the death of MP David Kiaraho.
Public Service Minister Geoffrey Ruku said the outcome has no impact on politics in Eastern Mt Kenya. He stressed that the region continues to support President William Ruto.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised DCP leaders and said the party has strengthened its influence in Mt Kenya. Analysts said the results could shape strategies for the 2027 general election.
