Kavinsky, the French synthwave artist known for the track Nightcall, was found dead at his home in Paris on July 28. He was 50 years old. Police have opened an inquiry into the suspected cause of death.
The musician, born Vincent Belorgey, had reportedly been experiencing headaches in recent days. First responders found no suspicious elements at the scene, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Tributes poured in from fellow artists. David Guetta called him a true icon of French electronic music. The Weeknd described the news as heartbreaking and pledged to honor his name and music. A-Trak remembered him as the funniest person he had ever met.
Madeon, Sebastian Tellier, Jean-Michel Jarre and Gaspard Auge of Justice also shared messages of grief. French President Emmanuel Macron wrote that Kavinsky was French pride forever.
Kavinsky gained global recognition after Nightcall appeared in the 2011 film Drive. He later performed the track at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony alongside Phoenix and Angèle.
