Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho has offered to resign to President Lee Jae Myung amid the ruling Democratic Party of Korea's push to limit the prosecution's investigative powers.
Political sources said Friday that Jung offered his resignation recently. The move comes as the Democratic Party of Korea adopted a revision to the Criminal Procedure Act earlier in the day to remove the prosecution's right to supplementary investigations.
Jung has raised concerns that ending this right could harm victims. The party has pursued broader prosecution reform legislation to split the prosecution's functions into separate agencies for investigations and indictments.
The National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, has been the site of related discussions, including Jung's appearance on July 22.
