The Partido Nacional Libertario and the Partido Republicano announced on Tuesday a constitutional accusation against former Finance Minister Nicolás Grau over alleged errors in debt projections.
The hard-right parties made the decision after the public finance report presented by current minister Jorge Quiroz. The document revealed that the previous government omitted debt of about US$10.5 billion in projections for 2026-2030.
Libertarian caucus leader Cristóbal Urruticoechea confirmed they will charge Grau under articles 3 and 5 of the State Financial Administration Law. Republican Benjamín Moreno joined and described the facts as “arithmetic”.
In Chile Vamos, UDI and RN chose caution. Flor Weisse and Diego Schalper said they will study the accusation next week and prioritize the reconstruction bill. PDG deputy Zandra Parisi also questioned that an accusation alone recovers resources.
Former minister Grau responded on social media and radio that the projections are consistent and contain no calculation errors.
