The United States National Science Foundation will no longer fund collaborations with Chinese research institutions on restricted-party lists.
The National Science Foundation announced the policy change in a public notice posted on its website last week. The move ends case-by-case reviews and prohibits use of agency funds for work with entities deemed national security risks.
John Moolenaar, chairman of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, described the decision as commendable and commonsense. He said it will protect taxpayer-funded research and innovation.
Moolenaar urged other federal agencies to adopt similar restrictions. The NSF stated that the US government has determined the listed entities warrant limits on national security and foreign policy grounds.
