The National Police Service has arrested 90 suspected members of organised criminal gangs in Kenya's Coast region over the past two weeks.
The arrests resulted from intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks in identified hotspots. Officers apprehended the suspects and presented them in court to face various charges.
The National Police Service said the operation remains ongoing, with officers maintaining an active presence in affected areas. The service reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
The crackdown follows President William Ruto's directive on July 21 for security agencies to deal decisively with goonism and other criminality. Ruto stated at State House: "And then we have goons. And then, I don't know whether we want to say again, these are our children, the goons. So, you know, we really need to have a candid conversation."
