Northern Cape premier urges ANC unity ahead of local elections

Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul has called for unity within the African National Congress ahead of upcoming local government elections. Speaking at the party's 114th anniversary celebrations in Colesberg, he emphasized that the ANC belongs to its ordinary members, not its leaders. Saul acknowledged the party's current challenges and stressed the need for collective effort to secure victory.

Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul delivered a keynote address at the African National Congress's 114th anniversary celebrations in Colesberg, Umsobomvu Municipality, within the Pixley ka Seme Region. The event, held under the theme 'Year of decisive action to fix local government and transform the economy,' drew over 10,000 attendees and was described as a resounding success in an ANC stronghold.

Saul openly admitted that the party is facing difficulties and urged supporters and members to unite to ensure victory in the forthcoming local government elections. He stressed the importance of collective ownership, declaring, 'This ANC does not belong to Cyril Ramaphosa and Fikile Mbalula. This ANC doesn’t belong to Zamani and Deshi. This ANC belongs to the ordinary people who support it and are its members. Not an organisation of leaders. So, if we always have this attitude of always thinking that we own this organisation, then it is a wrong attitude.'

The gathering highlighted the ANC's grassroots focus, with Saul positioning the party as one driven by its members rather than elite figures. This call for unity comes amid broader efforts to address internal divisions and strengthen the party's position ahead of the polls.
