President Julio Martínez Sola and CEO Roberto Roselli have resigned from Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas after an internal clash. Both admitted paying a 1% commission on the 53 million euro rescue granted in 2021.
The resignations took place on July 24, 2026, following a clash with other board members over the executives’ legal strategy. Martínez Sola and Roselli admitted in submissions to the Audiencia Nacional the payment of 530,000 euros to companies linked to Julio Martínez Martínez for support in obtaining the rescue from the Fondo de Apoyo a la Solvencia de Empresas Estratégicas.
The proposed new executive president is minority shareholder Hugo Castaño, a veteran of the firm, although his appointment requires SEPI approval. The airline remains under de facto intervention by the public entity as most of the loan has not been repaid.
Martínez Sola and Roselli were detained in December 2025 by the UDEF in an investigation by the Fiscalía Anticorrupción. Judge José Luis Calama has summoned them to testify on September 7 and 8, 2026.
