Renovación Nacional defended Senate president Paulina Núñez after UDI deputies questioned talks with the opposition on the megareform.
UDI bench chief and deputy chief Flor Weisse and Sergio Bobadilla labeled Núñez’s stance naive and a mistake. They said the left lacked real will for agreement, especially after the PS announced it would take the tax invariability clause to the Constitutional Court.
Núñez replied that she dislikes horse-trading in the Senate and that any improvement protocol must involve parties with the largest possible number of senators. RN bench chief Diego Schalper fully backed the senator.
Schalper said Núñez is fulfilling the government’s mandate to leave permanent conflict behind and build agreements through dialogue. RN president Andrea Balladares added that seeking agreements is never a mistake and that Núñez acts with institutional responsibility.
