Samsung unveils Flex Titanium for upcoming foldable phones

Samsung has introduced Flex Titanium, a new display technology that combines a titanium-alloy film with a titanium plate to make foldable phones thinner and more durable.

The company unveiled the technology on Tuesday for its upcoming Galaxy foldable phones, including the Z Fold 8. Samsung Display developed the structure over three years to address customer feedback on drops and impacts.

Engineers at the company's headquarters in South Korea test the displays by folding them up to 500,000 times under temperatures ranging from -20 to 60 degrees Celsius. Additional checks measure reflection, brightness and resistance to drops from a metal ball.

Samsung also previewed future concepts during a June lab visit. These include the Flex S that opens in a Z shape, the Flex Slidable that rolls out wider and the Flex Hybrid that combines folding with a rollable screen.

The company is scheduled to share more details at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
