The Mexico City government will set up measles vaccination modules during Shakira's free concert at the Zócalo on March 1. This initiative is part of a plan to administer 2 million doses and prevent outbreaks of the disease. Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada announced new macrocenters starting February 21.
On Friday, during a press conference, Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada outlined the expansion of the measles vaccination campaign. New macrocenters will be established at key city locations, operating for 15 days starting February 21, from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. The goal is to administer 2 million doses as a preventive measure.
Health Secretary Nadine Gassman confirmed vaccination posts at Shakira's Zócalo concert, scheduled for March 1. "Yes, we will have vaccination posts. We hope that by then, everyone will already be vaccinated. It can be a goal. It's an incentive. But yes, there will be vaccination posts at Shakira's concert," Gassman stated.
To date, 308 confirmed measles cases have been recorded in the capital, with 267 this year. Of these, 41 were diagnosed in Mexico City, though the affected individuals reside in the State of Mexico. Seventy-three percent of cases involve people without prior vaccination. Additionally, one death was reported: a three-month-old boy who died on December 30, confirmed on February 10.
The macrocenters are located at Deportivo Carmen Serdán and the IPN's Unidad Zacatenco parking lot in Gustavo A. Madero; Utopía Ixtapalcalli and Santa Cruz Meyehualco in Iztapalapa; Parque de los Venados in Benito Juárez; near Palacio de Bellas Artes in Cuauhtémoc; and the center of Coyoacán.
