A state-level conference on non-communicable diseases took place in Chennai from July 9 to 11. It was organised by Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in association with the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine Tamil Nadu Chapter.
The three-day event brought together more than 250 delegates and over 50 speakers. Its theme was “Integrating Public Health and Clinical Care for Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.”
A. Somasundaram, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine for the Government of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated the conference. He noted the steady rise in urban population and stressed the need to strengthen public health interventions in cities.
Tamil Nadu has set up 708 Urban Health and Wellness Centres to improve access to primary healthcare, he added.
