The victim, Herrera's live-in girlfriend, told authorities that he had stabbed or "stuck" her in the chest several times using the tip of a paring knife before she managed to lock him outside the residence.
Physical injuries on the woman matched her description of the assault, which police say took place roughly two to five minutes before Herrera was excluded from the house. According to the arrest affidavit, Herrera claimed he broke the window to re-enter after spotting his girlfriend without pants inside, accompanied by an unknown man. He further stated that he saw an unidentified Black man flee on foot.
