YouTube rolls out Gemini-powered 'Ask' button to TVs

YouTube is expanding its Gemini-powered 'Ask' feature to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices as an experiment for a small group of users. The tool allows viewers to interact with video content through prompts or voice questions. Google announced the rollout via a support page spotted by 9to5Google.

YouTube's 'Ask' button, powered by Google's Gemini AI, is now available on televisions and related devices. This conversational tool, which functions as a chatbot trained specifically on the content of individual videos, enables users to explore videos more interactively. On mobile and desktop versions, the feature already lets viewers select the button to access pre-set prompts tied to the video or speak their own questions using a microphone.

The expansion to living room setups includes smart TVs, set-top boxes, game consoles, and other streaming hardware. Users can activate it via the 'Ask' button or, if their TV remote has a microphone, by using that directly. Google provided examples of queries in its announcement, including "what ingredients are they using for this recipe?" for cooking videos and "what's the story behind this song's lyrics?" for music content.

This rollout begins as a limited experiment, accessible only to a small group of users. The company stated it would "keep everyone up to speed on any future expansions." The change was first reported after 9to5Google identified details on a Google support page. Published on February 19, 2026, the announcement highlights Google's ongoing efforts to integrate AI into video consumption across devices.
