Aerolíneas Argentinas announced a special flight to repatriate Argentines stranded in Florianópolis, Brazil, following the CGT general strike that led to widespread flight cancellations. The flight is scheduled to depart on Saturday, February 21, at 00:30 for Buenos Aires. This action aims to address the strike's effects during the peak summer season.
The general strike called by the CGT on Thursday severely disrupted air transport in Argentina, stranding thousands of Argentine tourists abroad. In particular, passengers on Aerolíneas Argentinas flight AR1209 were left stuck at Florianópolis airport without clear information on their return. The airline canceled 255 flights in total, affecting about 31,000 passengers and causing estimated losses of around 3 million US dollars.
In response, Aerolíneas Argentinas stated it will operate a special flight from Florianópolis to Buenos Aires, departing at 00:30 on Saturday, February 21. The company noted that, as an international flight, it requires approvals from local aeronautical authorities before formal confirmation. It is also coordinating with other airlines to provide alternatives for affected passengers and is working to lessen the impact of the 24-hour strike, which occurred during a high-demand operational period in summer.
Tourists reported financial hardship, as they had to cover lodging and meals with their own funds during the forced stay. Unlike other force majeure cancellations, the company did not assume these expenses, according to passenger accounts. The strike had a nationwide reach, impacting not only domestic but also international flights, and complicated the return of vacationers abroad.
