In Merida, 28-year-old Spaniard Cristina Bucsa captured her maiden WTA singles trophy by defeating Magdalena Frech in the final. Bucsa's run included her first career Top 10 win over Jasmine Paolini in the semifinals and victories over three former champions: Donna Vekic, Zeynep Sonmez, and Frech. This marked a continued rise for Bucsa, who reached the US Open fourth round in 2025 and her first WTA final in Hong Kong later that year, entering the Top 50 in January 2026. Her 32-spot climb tied for the biggest jump inside the Top 100.
Merida runner-up Frech, a former Guadalajara champion, reached her third career final and first since 2024, rising 21 places from No. 57 to No. 36 and returning to the Top 50.
