Jen Hatmaker schedules Lubbock event for 'Awake' memoir

New York Times bestselling author Jen Hatmaker will visit Lubbock in April to discuss her latest book, 'Awake: A Memoir,' which details her personal reinvention after a major life change. The event at Second Baptist Church offers tickets for a community conversation open to all attendees. Hatmaker has expressed fondness for the Lubbock community due to family ties.

Jen Hatmaker, known for her 15 books including five New York Times bestsellers, released 'Awake: A Memoir' on September 23, 2025. The book recounts her discovery of her husband's infidelity after 26 years of marriage, the subsequent end of that relationship, and her process of reinvention, which she terms "waking up" for the second half of her life.

The upcoming event, titled "An Evening with Jen Hatmaker," is set for Thursday, April 9, at Second Baptist Church located at 6109 Chicago Avenue in Lubbock, Texas. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the program starting at 7 p.m. Standard tickets cost $50 per person, while VIP seating is $75. For an extra $50, attendees can join a pre-show meet and greet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., featuring light refreshments, a photo opportunity, and book signing. Limited copies of 'Awake' will be available for purchase on site.

Tickets can be obtained through SecondB.org or the Eventbrite page at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-jen-hatmaker-tickets-1864427365439.

Hatmaker has noted that the memoir and her live appearances have fostered discussions on navigating life after significant transitions. "It has created a real beautiful community around, and who are we now? And what do we want out of the second-half of life?" she said. "It’s a very exciting conversation, and I’m thrilled to be in it with so many smart, brilliant women who are deciding to be the author of the second-half of their life."

She highlighted the personal importance of the Lubbock visit, mentioning her son's attendance at Texas Tech University. "Lubbock has a real special place in my heart," Hatmaker stated. "There’s some sort of secret sauce to the community that I really love and I’m surprised every time I go out there how loyal and deep even my community is that live in Lubbock."

The gathering is designed to be inclusive, welcoming people irrespective of faith or gender. "This is for everybody," Hatmaker emphasized. "If you are a church person, if you’re not, if you’re a person of faith, if you’re not, if you’re a woman, if you’re a man — this is really more like a community conversation."

In addition to her writing, Hatmaker hosts the "For the Love" podcast and leads the Jen Hatmaker Book Club.
