Argentine President Javier Milei took part Saturday in São Paulo at the launch of Flávio Bolsonaro's candidacy and launched strong attacks against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Judge Alexandre de Moraes. Brazil's ruling party and the Supreme Federal Court rejected the speech, calling it disrespectful to the country's institutions.
Milei spoke during the National Convention of the Liberal Party and described Lula as a “thief,” “convict” and “totalitarian.” He also referred to Judge Alexandre de Moraes as “the bald trash” for preventing him from visiting Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving house arrest.
Workers’ Party president Edinho Silva deemed it “inadmissible” for a foreign head of state to attack Brazilian authorities during an electoral event. He said the speech crossed an institutional line.
Supreme Federal Court president Luiz Edson Fachin issued a statement describing the reference to Moraes as “disrespectful” and reaffirmed the autonomy of the judiciary. Milei also met with São Paulo governor Tarcísio de Freitas, who awarded him the Order of Ipiranga.
