UMD indoor track teams set multiple school and meet records

The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's indoor track and field teams achieved several school records at the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota, and meet records at the MaDay Classic in Superior, Wisconsin, over the weekend. Performances included standout times and jumps that ranked among the top in NCAA Division II. These results highlight strong showings from both squads as the regular season concludes.

The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs competed in two indoor track and field meets this past weekend, delivering impressive performances that resulted in multiple school and meet records.

At the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota, on Friday and Saturday, the men's team saw senior Brock Unger set a school record in the 200m with a time of 22.05. On Saturday, Unger contributed to another school record in the 4x400m relay alongside Austin Kehr, Brady Johnson, and Billy Auvin, clocking 3:17.94, which ranks as the 50th quickest in NCAA Division II. Sophomore Billy Auvin also established a school record in the 400m at 48.49, the 68th fastest in Division II this season. Sophomore Avary Fitzpatrick placed second in the women's 400m with a school record of 57.03, ranking 80th in Division II. Senior Finn Youberg set a school record and personal best in the 1,000m at 2:29.71.

Other notable results from Brookings included Lillian Wanzek's 8.83 in the 60m hurdles (56th in Division II), Unger's 48.49 in the 400m (69th in Division II), Madeline Verkerke's 4:55.87 in the mile (49th in Division II), and Shaelyn Hostager's 17:05.99 in the 5,000m (32nd in Division II). In total, 16 athletes achieved career-best marks there.

At the MaDay Classic in Superior, Wisconsin, on Saturday, four meet records were set. Freshman Emma Reincke won the women's 200m in 26.13. Freshman Tayler McMeekin took second in the mile with 5:22.99, a personal best and meet record. Sophomore Noah Rodenwald's pole vault of 4.66m was a meet record and placed him in Division II's top 100. Freshman Daniel Wynter won the men's triple jump with 13.37m, another meet record. Junior Noah Mitchell's shot put of 16.51m ranked 40th in Division II. Thirteen athletes set personal records in Superior.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Snowshoe Open in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Friday.
