Youths make effort for wild bees in Borlänge

Youths aged 17 to 25 gathered outside Borlänge to create better conditions for threatened wild bees. The effort took place in 30-degree heat at Trumslagargropen near Rommehedslägret.

Lack of nesting sites and food threatens wild bees in Sweden. A group of young people therefore took action for the pollinators in the thicket south of Borlänge.

They dug and hacked to create sand patches and new nests. Signe Rönnegård, project leader for Fältbiologerna, said many young people want to help nature with concrete efforts.

The work is a collaboration with Borlänge municipality. Of the country's more than 300 species of wild bees, one third are threatened, according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
