28-year-old man electrocuted in Neelankarai

A 28-year-old man was electrocuted and his friend critically injured after touching a live overhead wire on a terrace in Neelankarai on Saturday night.

R. Ravikumar and M. Muthukumar had rented a property in Vettuvankeni of Neelankarai and were staying there for over a month.

On Saturday night both men went to the terrace and were consuming liquor. Ravikumar got up and went to the edge of the terrace where he touched a live overhead wire while gesturing and was electrocuted instantly. Muthukumar received an electric shock while trying to save him.

Nearby residents heard their cries and sent the men to Perumbakkam Government Hospital. Doctors there pronounced Ravikumar dead. The Neelankarai Police sent the body to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Muthukumar was shifted to hospital and is undergoing treatment.
