Home care missed that man was dead twice

Home care services in Härnösand missed detecting that Arne Engholm was dead during two visits. His daughter Pia-Lotta Engholm criticises the municipality's handling more than a year later.

In May 2025 Pia-Lotta Engholm found her father Arne dead in his senior housing unit in Härnösand. An autopsy showed he had died of a heart attack about 18 hours earlier.

Home care staff had visited him both the previous evening and on the morning he was discovered. Yet it was his daughter who established that he had been dead for some time.

The incident has been reported under Lex Sarah and is being investigated internally by the municipality. Social services head Ingrid Nilsson regrets the delay but stresses the need for thorough reviews.

Pia-Lotta Engholm has filed her own report with IVO and demands that the municipality take responsibility so similar incidents do not recur.
