Joe Satriani and Steve Vai release SatchVai Band single 'Dancing'

Guitar legends Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have unveiled a new single, 'Dancing', through their SatchVai Band, accompanied by a music video directed by Satriani's son ZZ Satriani. The track, a reimagined version of a Paolo Conte song, highlights their musical interplay and is available on streaming platforms. This release precedes the band's first U.S. tour starting in April 2026.

The SatchVai Band, featuring Joe Satriani and Steve Vai alongside drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Marco Mendoza, and guitarist Pete Thorn, launched their single 'Dancing' on March 2, 2026, via earMUSIC. Described as a vibrant, melodic exchange between the two guitarists, the song reinterprets a piece by Italian artist Paolo Conte and embodies the spontaneity from their recent European tour.

The accompanying video, directed by ZZ Satriani, stars comedian and musician Brendon Small—known for Metalocalypse and Dethklok—as an overzealous talent manager auditioning dancers for the band's show. It includes a cameo from Aronoff and syncs the performers' chaos with the track's rapid guitar lines. Satriani commented, “'Dancing' really captures the playful side of what Steve and I discovered on stage together last summer—that push-and-pull of melody and energy. The video gave us a chance to show that spirit in a completely different way.” Vai added, “This band thrives on surprise—musically and visually. 'Dancing' is a perfect example of that. It’s melodic but relentless, and the video turns that energy into a kind of surreal comedy.”

This single follows earlier releases like the instrumental 'The Sea of Emotion, Pt. 1' and 'I Wanna Play My Guitar', the latter featuring vocals from Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple. Formed in 2024 after decades of friendship, the band marks the duo's first formal collaboration.

The release coincides with preparations for the 'Surfing With The Hydra' 2026 U.S. Tour, launching April 1 at Seattle's Paramount Theatre and concluding May 30 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. The tour, supported by Animals as Leaders, will include new material and classics from both artists' catalogs, following European stops in London, Paris, Copenhagen, and festivals like Hellfest.
