The Motorists Association of Kenya has issued a 48-hour deadline to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority for a repair plan on the KSh 3.9 billion Ngong-Suswa Highway, citing rapid deterioration less than a year after completion.
The Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) issued the ultimatum on Friday, July 10, after rejecting KeRRA's explanation that overloaded trucks caused the damage. The 66-kilometre road, completed in December 2025, has developed large potholes, with some sections already prepared for repairs.
MAK stated that KeRRA must disclose the contractor's obligations, including whether the project remains under a defects liability period. The group demanded a transparent repair timeline and warned against using public funds if the contractor is responsible.
"We hereby issue a formal 48-hour ultimatum to KeRRA to provide a comprehensive, actionable and transparent resolution plan for the failure of the Ngong-Suswa Highway," MAK said. Failure to respond could lead to legal action, petitions to Parliament or complaints to oversight bodies.
KeRRA had attributed the issues to trucks exceeding the 10-tonne axle load limit and installed a virtual weighbridge for enforcement.
