On February 10-11, 2026, comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono attended a traditional court at Tongkonan Layuk Kaero, Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi, facilitated by the Indigenous Peoples' Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN). The process, known as Ma’Buak Burun Mangkali Oto’ or Ma'sosorang Rengnge’, aimed to address the unease in Toraja society caused by his 2013 stand-up comedy material on Rambu Solo that went viral in 2025.
Pandji openly apologized before 32 adat representatives. He acknowledged his lack of deep knowledge about Toraja customs, with the material drawn from inaccurate literature and sources. "Based on the adat court process held by 32 Toraja adat representatives, without hurting, wounding the hearts, and disturbing the people and nature of Toraja anymore," Pandji stated. He also expressed admiration for the beauty of Toraja cultural processes.
The imposed sanction was a ritual apology to ancestors, involving one pig and five chickens, not as a fine but as a tool for restoration. "The complement to the ritual apology to our ancestors is one pig, five chickens," said an adat figure. AMAN advisor Lewaran S Rantelakbi explained the sanction was to restore the society's distress from the offended customs and traditions.
Toraja Adat Council Deputy Y.S. Tandirerung stated Pandji's presence was expected to restore disrupted harmony. "The implementation of the adat ritual imposed on Pandji is a firm step by the adat council so that similar incidents do not happen again," he said. Tongkonan Kada Secretary Daud Pangurangan appreciated Pandji's commitment, while PHD AMAN Toraya Chair Romba Marannu Sambolinggi emphasized the process also involved Toraja society's reflection on overreactions to the viral clip.
