Tesla has introduced a stripped-back version of its Model Y electric SUV for the UK market, reducing the starting price to £41,990. This entry-level model aligns more closely with European competitors like the Skoda Enyaq. Deliveries are set to begin in February 2026.
The new Tesla Model Y Standard variant brings the electric SUV's entry price down by £3,000 from the previous base model, starting at £41,990. For those opting for finance, it is available at £299 per month over a 36-month lease with a £3,588 deposit. This pricing positions it nearer to rivals such as the Skoda Enyaq, which starts from £39,010.
To achieve the lower cost, Tesla has made several simplifications. Exterior changes include removing the front and rear light bars in favor of a basic split-light design and omitting the panoramic roof. The suspension switches from frequency-selective dampers to a passive setup. On 19-inch 'Crossflow' wheels—larger than the 18-inch ones in markets like the US—to support better residual values.
Inside, the model replaces faux leather seats with cloth and features a smaller centre console. The audio system has seven speakers instead of nine, and there is no touchscreen for rear passengers. Other omissions include the 'Bioweapon defence mode' for air filtration and electric adjustment for the steering wheel; owners must adjust it manually. Access relies solely on the Tesla smartphone app, as no physical key is provided.
Powered by the same battery as the standard Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive, the lighter Standard version offers 314 miles of range—three miles more than its predecessor. Tesla has discontinued the regular Rear-Wheel Drive model, making the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive the next option at £48,990 with 387 miles of range.
While Tesla has not yet announced a Model 3 Standard for the UK, it is anticipated to follow the Model Y's launch soon.
