Variety and CNN to host town hall with Chalamet and McConaughey

Variety and CNN are teaming up for a special town hall event featuring actors Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey. The conversation will reunite the stars who portrayed father and son in the 2014 film Interstellar. Filmed at the University of Texas at Austin, the event airs on February 21.

The upcoming town hall marks another collaboration between Variety and CNN, following the success of their "Actors on Actors" series. Chalamet and McConaughey, who first worked together on Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Interstellar, will discuss their acting techniques, influential roles, and creative processes before a live audience of University of Texas at Austin students.

Chalamet recently received his third Oscar nomination for best actor for his role in Marty Supreme. McConaughey, an Oscar winner for Dallas Buyers Club, appears in the recent Apple TV+ drama The Lost Bus. As a University of Texas alumnus, McConaughey has taught film classes at the university's Moody College of Communication since 2015. The evening will include questions from the student audience.

"This special event underscores the strength of CNN’s partnership with Variety and our shared commitment to thoughtful, premium experiences that bring audiences closer to the artists they admire," said Amy Entelis, CNN’s vice president of creative executive for originals and creative development worldwide. "Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey offer a masterclass in craft and creativity, which is exactly the kind of elevated programming we’re proud to bring to CNN audiences and our streaming subscribers."

Ramin Setoodeh, Variety’s co-editor-in-chief and co-president, added, "Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey first met playing father and son on the set of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. And at Variety, we love a reunion. Coming off the success of this season of ‘Actors on Actors,’ we are thrilled to once again collaborate with CNN on this one-of-a-kind town hall event."

The latest season of "Actors on Actors" premiered in December, featuring conversations such as Ariana Grande with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Lawrence with Leonardo DiCaprio. It achieved 247 million social media views across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X. Episodes are available to stream for CNN subscribers.

The event, titled "A CNN & Variety Town Hall Event: Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey," airs February 21 at 7 p.m. ET on CNN and streams for subscribers.
