Walt Disney World braces for Princess Half Marathon weekend

The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend returns to Walt Disney World from February 26 to March 2, 2026, drawing tens of thousands of runners and spectators. With all races sold out, the event will bring road closures, delayed park openings, and heightened crowds. Non-competing guests are advised to plan strategically to navigate the impacts.

The 2026 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, organized by runDisney, spans five days at Walt Disney World, starting February 26 and ending March 2. This popular event features themed races that attract large crowds, including runners, families, and support crews, creating a celebratory atmosphere across the resort.

The schedule includes the Merida-themed Disney Princess 5K on February 27, the Moana-themed 10K on February 28, and the Rapunzel-themed Half Marathon on March 1. Runners completing both the 10K and Half Marathon earn the Belle-themed Disney Fairytale Challenge medal. The weekend concludes with a Disney Princess Yoga event on March 2.

Each race starts at 5 a.m., leading to early morning road closures. The 5K and 10K courses run through EPCOT, with impacts ending before the park's 9 a.m. opening—Early Entry for Disney resort guests begins at 8:30 a.m. The Half Marathon, however, extends from EPCOT through Magic Kingdom and back, with closures affecting both parks until 10 a.m. EPCOT will open one hour later than usual on March 1, at 10 a.m., with Early Entry at 9:30 a.m. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom will maintain normal operations that day.

Crowds build as runners finish and head to the parks, particularly Magic Kingdom for its emotional appeal to participants. By late morning on race days, parks see increased foot traffic from post-race celebrations, longer lines, and higher demand on transportation and dining. EPCOT serves as a decompression spot in the afternoons.

For non-competing visitors, tips include arriving at rope drop early, using mobile ordering, booking Lightning Lane selections promptly, and taking midday breaks at resorts. The event's energy is described as communal and worth experiencing if guests adjust expectations and plans accordingly.
