Egypt urges inclusive innovation at Africa assistive technology conference

The first phase of a continental report on assistive technology in Africa was announced at the Inclusive Africa 2026 conference. Eman Karim of Egypt's National Council for Persons with Disabilities highlighted partnerships and innovation during an online session.

Eman Karim, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, spoke at the Inclusive Africa 2026 conference on 2 June 2026. She stated that partnerships and innovation are fundamental pillars for building an Africa that is more inclusive of persons with disabilities. The conference featured the launch of the first phase of the Report on the Reality of Assistive Technology in Africa. The report seeks to support evidence-based policies and programmes to improve access to assistive technology across the continent. Participants from African governments, international institutions, civil society organisations and the private sector discussed empowerment, accessibility standards and multilateral cooperation. Karim noted that the National Council supports initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
