Indonesia's Foreign Ministry states that as the chair of the Developing Eight (D-8), the country continues to emphasize the importance of de-escalation and urges relevant parties to exercise restraint. This offer followed a phone call from Iran's leader and is supported by Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has agreed to join. Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) Jimly Asshiddiqie stated, "And what I am grateful for is that the Prime Minister of Pakistan is willing to go together with President Prabowo to visit Tehran."
Yvonne Mewengkang affirmed that this initiative is consistent with the free-active principle to promote peaceful resolutions. The Foreign Ministry is ready to coordinate preparations if the offer is approved by all parties. Meanwhile, preparations for the 12th D-8 Summit in Jakarta in April 2026 are proceeding as planned, under the theme "Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity." Iran's membership in D-8 remains unaffected by the current conflict dynamics.
Iran's Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi hopes that D-8 will firmly condemn the US-Israel attack on Iran on February 28, 2026. Minister of ATR/BPN Nusron Wahid added that Prabowo's mediation intent has been welcomed by Middle Eastern countries such as Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The effort aims to prevent further escalation, particularly after the killing of an Ayatollah.
