Bungie has announced a three-month delay for its Destiny 2 mid-expansion update, originally scheduled for March 3, 2026. The update, now set for June 9, 2026, will undergo large revisions including quality-of-life improvements and a name change. This follows player concerns after the recent Renegades expansion.
Bungie revealed on February 18, 2026, that Destiny 2's next major update, initially titled Shadow and Order, is delayed from its planned March 3 launch to June 9, 2026. The studio cited the need for "large revisions" to address player feedback, expanding the update with sizable quality-of-life changes, which also prompted a rename.
In its announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Bungie stated: "Our next Major Update, Destiny 2: Shadow and Order, is undergoing large revisions and will be delayed. This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026."
The revised update will cover previously announced features like Weapon Tier Upgrading, alongside new additions such as expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, and Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors. Bungie assured players of continued support through June, including routine bug fixes, stability improvements, ongoing portal modifiers, the return of Guardian Games in March, and a more frequent Iron Banner schedule starting in April.
This delay comes amid challenges for Destiny 2, following the December 2025 launch of the Star Wars-themed Renegades expansion, which failed to significantly boost player numbers. Concurrent PC player counts have reached an all-time low for the nearly 12-year-old sci-fi MMO. The timing avoids overlap with Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, set for March 5, 2026, after a server slam test from February 26 to March 2.
While the changes aim to overhaul endgame systems and loot progression issues raised since the Year of Prophecy began in July 2025, Bungie has not detailed the full progression fixes. Community manager dmg04 acknowledged delays in a November 4, 2025, post: "Cannot apologize enough for the delay here. Team's still jamming. Hope to have some comms out soon."
The postponement may affect Destiny 2's 2026 roadmap, which includes expansions Shattered Cycle in summer and The Alchemist in winter, though Bungie has not confirmed any shifts.
