Citizen launches slimmer Series 8 mechanical watches

Citizen has introduced five new models in its mechanical Series 8 line, featuring a more compact 39.3mm case size. The watches incorporate the brand's Calibre 9051 automatic movement and draw on Japanese design elements. Prices begin at £895, positioning them as competitive options in the sub-£1,000 mechanical sports watch category.

Citizen recently unveiled additions to its Series 8 collection, emphasizing a shift toward more understated wristwear amid trends away from oversized sports watches. The new lineup consists of five models housed in 39.3mm steel cases that measure just 10.4mm in thickness, described by the brand as aligning with a “globally trending” case size.

At the heart of each watch is the Calibre 9051 automatic movement, engineered for everyday reliability. It provides anti-magnetic resistance to ensure accuracy near electronic devices and achieves a daily rate of -10 to +20 seconds.

The dials reflect Japanese influences, with a central sector depicting a stylized Tokyo night skyline combined with a traditional check pattern symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Applied indices and faceted cases contribute to a refined appearance.

Complementing the standard models is a limited edition of 1,200 pieces, featuring a forged carbon dial accented in grey and gold. This variant highlights the collection's premium touches.

Starting at £895, these Series 8 watches are noted for offering strong value among mechanical sports timepieces under £1,000. The launch expands Citizen's mechanical offerings with practical, aesthetically pleasing options for modern wearers.
