Trent Schneider, 58, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, was sentenced to 38 months in federal prison for making threats against President Donald Trump. The threats appeared in at least 18 social media posts and videos. He was convicted in March after a three-day trial in Chicago.
Schneider posted videos on Instagram in October 2025 that included threats to kill Trump and other officials. One video stated he could get "a lot of f—ing guns" and would "take care of business." Another post said Trump "SHOULD BE EXECUTED!!!" and called for the deaths of judges, doctors, lawyers, and police.
The posts were tagged with the location of Trump Tower in Chicago. A concerned citizen in Florida reported the videos to authorities. Schneider was arrested at his home in Winthrop Harbor after becoming irate during an interview with investigators.
Prosecutors noted that Schneider posted the same threatening video seven times in one day. He later told a judge he would "burn this castle down" during a court appearance. The U.S. Secret Service Chicago Field Office highlighted the case as an example of its priority to protect the president.
