India sends letter of request to France for 114 Rafale jets

The Indian government has finalized a letter of request for the purchase of 114 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. The deal is estimated at around 3.25 lakh crore rupees.

India has formally finalized a letter of request for the purchase of 114 Dassault Rafale multi-role fighter jets. The document will be sent to the French government in the coming weeks.

The Defence Acquisition Council has already approved the procurement. Around 90 aircraft will be built in India under the Make in India initiative while 22 will arrive directly from France. Indigenous content is expected to be around 50 percent.

Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh is on a three-day visit to France starting 1 June. He will meet leaders from Dassault Aviation and MBDA.

A request for proposal will follow. After talks on price and logistics, final approval will be sought from the Cabinet Committee on Security.
